There are four different message types (or frames) on a CAN bus:

  • the Data Frame
  • the Remote Frame
  • the Error Frame and
  • the Overload Frame
DATA Frame

CAN HS, CAN FD, EXT-CAN, M-CAN

CAN FD: CAN with flexible data rate

CAN HS: CAN High Speed

EXT-CAN: External CAN

M-CAN: Multimedia CAN (Max 4096 bytes)
